The World’s Greatest Entertainer: Original Samples

dougefresh-wide

I remember going through my older brothers tape box and falling in love with this album on first listen.  Doug E. Fresh and the Get Fresh Crew’s second album produced hits such as “Rising to the Top” and my personal favorite  “I’m Getting Ready.”  This set is typical 88′ material…..lots of James Brown and other popular breaks.  1988 was a GREAT year in Hip-Hop!

There are a few missing samples for a couple of the songs so hit us up with any info!  As a bonus we’ve added the samples for “The Show” and “La Di Da Di.”  Props goes to Onez for the assist for some of the samples.  Link and info after the jump…Enjoy!

Thomas, U & Onez getz big muthaphucking props from me for droppin’ this joint right here man this was the 1st cassette tape that I have brought with my own money from my 1st real job..I brought this joint from the Wiz that use to be on 12th and FStreets, in downtown DC…and the song “I’m Getting Ready” was the #1 song in DC cause it featured them Inner City Groovers, The King of the Go-Go…Rare Essence (the group Jayz- stole that 6 in the morning joint from, lol)…

Again Thanks for blessing us with this joint and “Rising to the Top”, that’s the joint too :-)

“Sukiyaki” by Kyu Sakamoto is not the song used for “La Di Da Di”….they Interpolated the remake by A Taste of Honey

wow.. back to back.. this is nuts

I think I like “I’m Gettin’ Ready” because it has that Go-Go feel to it. Hip Hop has always “borrowed” from Go-Go (Go-Go took from Hip Hop as well). Might need to put together a good Go-Go comp to give to the good folks here on K-Not.com

There were no samples in The Show and La-Di-Da-Di …I played the instrumental parts live (eg inspector gadget) and Rick sang the parts of the songs you mentioned (eg Michelle)..the only parts that are not live are the dj cuts like “is it real” “oh my God” etc sampling is a different deal
