Artist Spotlight: Dumbfoundead

I just recently caught on to LA emcee Dumbfoundead through the collaboration he did with the homie Wax on “Hollyhoodrats.” After hearing his “Jam Session 2.0″ with other musicians across the web, I quickly became a fan and checked out some of his work on his Bandcamp page.

We chopped it up a bit with Dumbfoundead last week. Hit the jump to see what went down, but definitely check out dude’s YouTube page to really see the talent.

Where you reppin:
Koreatown, Los Angeles

Introduce yourself:
My name is Dumbfoundead, I am an emcee/entertainer from Los Angeles. I love to create and destroy!

Where did the name Dumbfoundead come from?
When I was 15, I was a freestyling machine and my homies would always say I would leave spectators dumbfounded. So I just added an “a” to the name to be clever and that’s pretty much it. haha

Main musical inspirations:
Project Blowed, Freestyle Fellowship, Slick Rick, The Alkaholiks, Radiohead, Redman, Pharcyde, Led Zeppelin, Miles Davis, just to name a few.

When did you fall in love with hip hop?
My mom used to own a store in downtown LA and right next door there was an electronics store that would play hip-hop all day! I’ve loved it since then.

Current projects we should be looking out for:
An album themed around my favorite movie “Old Boy.” All the beats are sampled from the movie.

Previous work that we should know about:
My last solo album “Fun with Dumb” which I worked on with DJ Zo. Go cop it! It’s fun! Also I’m constantly putting out singles through my youtube channel, so get those free downloads!

If you had to pick one song that defines your career to date, what song would that be?
Dumbfoundead – K-Town Story

Why should the readers and fans give you a shot and listen to your music from here on out?
Irap about stuff that no one else has rapped about. I think. hahaha

If you could only take one record on a deserted island with you, what album would that be?
Weezer – The Blue Album

What’s next for you?
The world

Any shout outs or last words?
