Rest In Peace Tim Smooth

Sad news to pass along today as NOLA.com is reporting that New Orleans pioneer Tim Smooth has passed away at age 39 after an extended battle with lung cancer. The New Orleans emcee was a part of Rap-A-Lot Records in the early 90′s, releasing the well regarded Straight Up Drivin’ Em album with Too Cool. Tim later went on to be a part of one of New Orleans’ most popular labels, Big Boy Records, mentoring Mystikal as a writer during the beginning of his career. He was working a new project with Jr. Mack as The Mighty Pimptations before his passing. Hit the jump for a few of Tim’s finest recordings if you’re unfamiliar with his work. R.I.P. Tim Smooth!

Tim is a true New Orleans legend. He may have never been a widely known name around the country, but his influence was evident on so many of the biggest artists from the city.

Damn, RIP. I actually was wondering about Tim Smooth a couple weeks ago in a fleeting thought. I did not know he was in that battle with cancer. Much love and respect to family and friends from here in Minneapolis.
