Chaundon Presents Just My Thoughts: Resurrection or Replacement

Why is it when someone of incredible greatness dies, the world looks for “the next…”? If the possibility of “the next…” was to exist then he or she would have been making unreachable strides in his/her career during the life of the incredible one. Read More »

Chaundon Presents Just My Thoughts: Does Street Cred Sell Records?

The views and opinions of Chaundon do not reflect those of KevinNottingham.com However, they do respect what I have to say or I wouldn’t be here. Relax folks, it’s Just My Thoughts! Does street cred help really help an artist sell records? Let’s look at some of the artists currently behind bars and those who regained their freedom. We can start off with Lil’ Kim. What did her bid do for her? NOTHING. She had a reality show prior to her sentence but when she came back, she released music & videos that went so far under the radar I forgot she existed. Let’s face it — between her absence and the plastic surgery, her fan base no longer recognizes her. Read More »

Chaundon Presents Just My Thoughts: Leasing Beats

Leasing beats… please somebody explain this concept to me! I was on Myspace recently (yeah, people still use that) and I received a gang of emails from producers/beat makers about using their tracks for my next album or mixtape. As I continued to read one message, it said “beats are leased for $25 & to own the beat $100.” So as I sat in a state of confusion, I thought to myself, “if I leased the beat for $25, wrote & recorded to the track and leaked it on the net, why would I even think of paying the $100 to own it?” I figure once I lace the joint, who’s going to want to own it after I rocked it, placed it on Chaundon.com & KevinNottingham.com and got mad spins with it on college radio? Now I may be wrong here, but the whole leasing concept sounds dumb as hell (But this is the reason for the blog!) I don’t understand the point so I’m reaching out to be schooled on the subject. “Get at me dog” ©DMX Read More »

Chaundon Presents Just My Thoughts [Exclusive Guest Blog]

[Note - Words by Justin] Today we are proud to bring you an exclusive piece written from Justus League member Chaundon. The veteran emcee will periodically give us his take on some of the issues in hip hop and his first is a good one. Chaundon covers a topic that brings about strong opinions – What exactly is “Real Hip Hop”? Thanks again to Chaundon for doing this! It’s amazing how everyone with an opinion is a Hip Hop aficionado. Who died and left them in the position to be the Cherub of Hip Hop? There has been an influx of “experts” who impose their beliefs in 140 characters or less on what “Real Hip Hop” is. What exactly is “Real Hip Hop”? Some say dope beats and dope rhymes are the make up of real Hip Hop. The problem is, people feel that their opinions are facts. This is when a simple Hip Hop discussion becomes worse than a discussion about religion. Read More »
