Tha Voice: Anyone (feat James Jackson & Lil’ One The Champ) [Music Video]

Let’s take a trip to my home of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. If you’re heard of Dead Game Records, it’s probably due to the label being the former home of Kevin Gates. As you might expect, his departure led to a lot of their buzz quieting down and the split was far from amicable. Recently though, Dead Game made the very smart decision of signing Lil’ One The Champ (who we’ve featured on KN many times before). CEO Travis Johnson, who will NEVER be mistaken for a studio gangster, has also entered his hat into the game under the moniker Tha Voice. I guess you could call “Anyone” Dead Game’s reintroduction to the rap world as it’s essentially a response to Gates’ “Get Up On My Level.” The single, which originally appeared on Lil’ One’s Late Nights Early Mornings tape, also features another great talent from BR in James Jackson. While Tha Voice is far from technically sound, he’s got the orating style of a J. Prince to make up for it. James Jackson and Lil’ One The Champ, two of the most gifted emcees in Baton Rouge, do to the heavy lifting here and make this song a memorable anthem. Look out for more from Lil’ One The Champ and Dead Game as he prepares to release his debut album Loyalty: We All We Got. Read More »

Don Speaks: My My My (feat. Scoop)

Last week Donwill and Dash Speaks dropped off ‘Ape Shit’ which gave the world a taste of what to expect from their upcoming collaboration Don Speaks. This week they are back at it with My, My My ft. Scoop which shows a different side of themselves by taking an honest, thoughtful look at “the morning after.” Don’s verses brim with real-life experience, painting a picture of vulnerability and self-doubt that is rare in the hip hop world. His raps are complimented by Scoop’s silvery, emotive voice and Dash Speaks’ shifting beat. Not only did dash co-write the track but he also drew the artwork as well. Look out for the full project to release on August 5th. Read More »
