What’s On The iPod

Featuring… Kendrick Lamar [KN Playlist]

With the recent breakout success of Kendrick Lamar, we’re seeing the Compton emcee featured on quite a few new tracks lately…. most notably J. Cole’s “Forbidden Fruit” off his upcoming album Born Sinner.  This prompted me to go through the vaults and compile a playlist of all the dope features K. Dot has been on in recent years.  Included are tracks with A$AP Rocky, The Game, Talib Kweli, Nitty Scott MC, and many more. Check the playlist after the cut. And if there are any other tracks you think we should include, let us know in the comments. Read More »

KN Workout Mix #1

For the past two months I’ve been on a real health kick. I just got to a point where I wasn’t happy with the way I looked anymore and wanted to shed a few pounds. And since I’m quickly approaching 40, I figure it wouldn’t get any easier anytime soon. So when I set my mind to something, I flip a switch and go into drastic measures mode. I cut my diet down to 1200 calories a day, eating primarily chicken, fish and vegetables. For anyone that knows me, they know that this diet is far from what I like to eat. I love pizza, hamburgers, steak and everything that’s bad for me. But I make sure I give myself a cheat day on the weekend and everything balances itself out. Since Labor Day I have proudly shed 18 pounds. Since I’m a little lighter on my feet, I decided to incorporate some exercise into my routine to hopefully kick start the next 15 pounds that I want to lose. Nothing motivates me more than some hard hitting music. So I compiled a playlist of Hip Hop tracks that get me going. I just got back from a 3 mile run and wanted to share this with my KN fam. I’m trying out this new service called Rdio.  It was really easy to add my songs from their library and it seems easy enough to share. Plus they have a mobile app so you can listen to the mix on your phone ... Read More »

What’s On The iPod? #34

It’s been over half a year since I created a public playlist for Mr. Nottingham. This time around I’ve included some of my favorites like BSBD, J Dilla and CunninLynguists as well some newer releases like Flatbush Zombies and Brother Ali and a few tracks that fall outside of the Hip-Hop genre. I hope you all enjoy. Read More »

What’s On The iPod? #33

Of course there are other genres of music that I thoroughly enjoy and listen to regularly; however, Hip-Hop is in my daily rotation without a doubt. To me, music is an escape from reality and lets you delve into a universe where it’s just the soundscape and the listener. That being said, it’s also a good thing to know that I’m a beat junkie, so instrumental Hip-Hop music is always on my playlist. Call me a backpacker, but below is a solid mix of what’s currently running on my iPod. Read More »

What’s On The iPod? #32

My relationship with music is as personal as one can imagine. While Hip Hop has always been my first love, I’m an enthusiast for good music period. What I feel like listen to changes with my mood, and that changes every few minutes. Some days I look to be inspired, others I like to sit back and just reflect. Music that stimulates the mind works, but sometimes you just have to indulge in a little ignorance. So this right here is a collection of whatever songs just happened to fit my current state of mind. Chill, but dope. It’s as simple as that. Read More »

What’s On The iPod? #31

Once again, I bring you a sampling of what I’ve been currently playing. Some I’ve enjoyed for a minute, like “John’s Postcard,” a remix of “Postcard” by frequent David Dallas collaborator – and former Frontline group mate – Forty One. Forty One’s fantastic remix album has kept D-Dot’s lyrics from last year’s slept-on mixtape The Rose Tint in constant rotation. Kool A.D.’s careless charm shines through on “La Pinata.” Lee Bannon offers his take on trap rhythms with “Caligula Themed Music,” Flosstradamus make a case for best song of the zeitgeist and Marcus D closes the set with an instrumental that proves that he’s the new torchbearer for Nujabes.
