Alleged Ex-Cypress Hill Member Loses $250 Million GTA: San Andreas Suit   With all of the buzz surrounding Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d City album, here’s a story that highlights an alleged member of a legendary West coast group and a piece of art that was a tribute to that era of California life.  Michael “Shagg” Washington, a supposed former vocalist for Cypress Hill, claimed to be the inspiration for the character Carl “CJ” Johnson from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. The claim later became a lawsuit against Rockstar Video Games Studio, claiming that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas used his likeness as the inspiration for main character C.J. without his knowledge. “Washington sued Rockstar/ Take Two Video Games for  $250 million, but after several rulings, the California appeals court has found that Washington “failed to establish a probability of defeating Take-Two’s First Amendment-based ‘transformative use’ defense,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. “Washington reportedly failed to prove that his face was actually in San Andreas with a judge saying,” ” The plaintiff is relying entirely on C.J.’s physical appearance in the game; but that appearance is so generic that it necessarily includes hundreds of other black males.” Washington claimed he had a meeting in 2003 with game designers to talk about his life on the streets of California and even gave ...
