Salaam Remi becomes new A&R for Sony Music In an exclusive from Billboard.biz, Sony Music Entertainment is expected to name Salaam Remi as executive VP of A&R/production.  The story explains the Grammy-nominated producer/songwriter will work across all Sony labels. Remi’s resume continues to grow with current hits like Alicia Keys’ current top five R&B/hip-hop song “Girl on Fire” and Tamia’s “Beautiful Surprise’.’ Salaam Remi’s Midas’ touch has reached over 15 years of music and artists. His lists of artists include:  Amy Winehouse, Monica, Jazmine Sullivan and the Fugees as well as several film scores (“Sparkle,” “Tyson“).  Remi ‘s working relationship with Amy Winehouse was highlighted by VIBE magazine in their 2011 ‘’Juice’’ issue where Salaam revealed he and Winehouse were recording new music for a future album. This week, we are bringing you news on a Cannibal Ox reunion, the death of a legend, and artists using their platform to give back so dig in and get in the know! Cannibal Ox To Reunite As Duo For First Time In Seven years For Brooklyn Performance  It’s hard to believe that Cannibal Ox’s (Vast Aire and Vordul Mega) underground classic The Cold Vein, is more than ten years old.  It is even harder to believe that the follow-up album to The Cold Vein has still never seen the light of day and the duo has been relatively quiet since dropping their 2005 live album, Return of the Ox: Live at CM. However, the two seem to be done with their sabbatical as a group and plan to reunite for a Brooklyn performance set for December 9th. Guests set to perform as well are:  C-Rayz Walz, Prop Anon, Double AB, Creature, Ireelz, J.Stylez and Original Text. The show will take place in Brooklyn’s Knitting Factory. Alleged Ex-Cypress Hill Member Loses $250 Million GTA: San Andreas Suit   With all of the buzz surrounding Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d City album, here’s a story that highlights an alleged member of a legendary West coast group and a piece of art that was a tribute to that era of California life.  Michael “Shagg” Washington, a supposed former vocalist for Cypress Hill, claimed to be the inspiration for the character Carl “CJ” Johnson from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. The claim later became a lawsuit against Rockstar Video Games Studio, claiming that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas used his likeness as the inspiration for main character C.J. without his knowledge. “Washington sued Rockstar/ Take Two Video Games for  $250 million, but after several rulings, the California appeals court has found that Washington “failed to establish a probability of defeating Take-Two’s First Amendment-based ‘transformative use’ defense,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. “Washington reportedly failed to prove that his face was actually in San Andreas with a judge saying,” ” The plaintiff is relying entirely on C.J.’s physical appearance in the game; but that appearance is so generic that it necessarily includes hundreds of other black males.” Washington claimed he had a meeting in 2003 with game designers to talk about his life on the streets of California and even gave ... Curtis Scoon Replies To Jam Master Jay’s Murder Allegations This week on October 30th marked the 10 year anniversary of the unfortunate passing of Jam Master Jay. Since his murder, authorities still haven’t been able to piece together the puzzle of why, how, and who lead to the demise of RUN DMC member.  On October 23rd, the New York Daily News implied that Curtis Scoon had ties in the murder of Jam Master Jay. The report, New York Daily News titled “10 Years Later, Murder of Jam Master Jay of Run-DMC Unsolved,” claims that Jam Master Jay was murdered after a hit was ordered to settle a drug debt to Hollis, Queens native Curtis Scoon. Forced To Postpone Tour Due To Ill Health During this year, the Rundown has reported two stories on rappers with severe health problems; California emcees Gift of Gab and Tone Loc. Now, Minneapolis rapper P.O.S. is the latest emcee forced to stop his work and focus on his health. P.O.S. has cancelled his upcoming tour this November because he’s currently on kidney dialysis. The rapper has recently taken to YouTube to address his fans and explain his current health situation. P.O.S.  tells his fans that his kidneys have been failing him since high school and after going on dialysis for the past month, he realizes he can’t travel as he continues dialysis. P.O.S. also points out that the tour is by no means canceled and that he will perform his hometown show on October 26th. KN wishes P.O.S. a speedy recovery. Questlove Starts New Gig As NYU Professor Questlove has grown from being solely The Roots drummer to his own distinct brand. With his ownership role of Okayplayer Records, to his role as actor and occasional host of ceremonies on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, Questlove has become one of the busiest men in Hip Hop.
