Top 10 Free Albums: 2012

Kevin: This list was actually pretty easy for me to compile this year. Even though there are hundreds of free albums that drop daily, there were only a good handful that stood out to me… and these albums are some that I often play more than retail albums. In fact, if my #1 pick were a retail album, it would have been my #1 Hip Hop album of the year. Beautiful Music Part 2 received SO MUCH play by me this year… an amazing piece of work. Luck-One & Dekk – Beautiful Music Part 2 Rashid Hadee – Aural Sex: The Search For Pinky Tuscadero King Mez – My Everlasting Zeal K. Sparks – Read Between The Lines Various Artists – The Executive Suite Doss The Artist – 9 Lives Harmony Muzik – Conflict of Interest Christian’Dee – SHVPXRT. / Eff.Plan.B J NICS & DJ Burn One – Darkside Raven Sorvino – Playa Del Rey Justin: Some of the best releases of 2012 were free, but I would have gladly paid for them. The number one spot was truly a toss-up between Luck-One & Dekk’s Beautiful Music Part 2 and Big K.R.I.T’s 4Eva N A Day. I went back and forth between those two before ultimately going with Luck-One & Dekk’s LP. Both projects were incredible and truly deserving of the top spot as K.R.I.T. just as easily could have been slotted #1. One Be Lo showed us a different side on K.I.C.K. P.U.S.H. while still providing the elite lyricism we’ve come to expect. Rising stars such as MaLLy, Nemo Achida, Thee Tom Hardy, ... Read More »

Doss The Artist & Hir-O: Peace King

Yesterday Hir-O hit me with Peace King, a five track holiday project he and Doss The Artist put together. Along with the project the producer said that he apologizes for the short notice but the Christmas themed project went from a thought to a finished project within a week. With that being said my expectations were not high for the project I quickly learned that I should never put anything  past Hir-O and Doss The Artist, Peace King is straight up Certified fresH. If these two can put together an ill project like this in a week it’s no wonder I fucked with the tracks Hir-O produced on Doss The Artists’ previous project, #9Lives. Stream and download Peace King below and witness another entry into the catalog of dope music these two provide. Peace King by Doss The Artist & Hir-O Read More »

Doss The Artist: Cave [Music Video]

On the heels of his very well received release #9Lives (one of my favorite releases so far this year), Doss The Artist links up with talented director Ricky Shabazz on a haunting video for “Cave,” a chilling, minimalist song featuring an eerie Kid Cudi sample and production from Hir-O. Presented by Three/21Media and shot deep in the woods around a pit of fire, “Cave” tells an open-ended story of Doss delving into a demonic world of dreams, contending with forces that threaten to corrode his livelihood. Watch as Doss paints varied pictures, like he’s “got Gordon Parks and Tupac in the same building.” Keep tabs on Doss via Twitter and Tumblr! Read More »
