G-Side: Forever [prod by Block Beattaz & Clova]

I’m VERY late on this as I haven’t been able to post much lately, but I gotta acknowledge the reunion of G-Side! I’ve actually known about this for a few weeks (shout out to Codie G) and it’s been a tough secret to keep. We’ve been longtime supporters of ST 2 Lettaz, Clova & the whole Slow Motion Soundz crew, so it’s great to see them working together again. If you haven’t already, check out the new cut “Forever” which was premiered by NPR. And stay tuned to KN cause we’ll definitely have more from G-Side in the near future. Read More »

CP of the Block Beattaz Talks “Swangin” Controversy, G-Side’s Breakup and More [Part 2]

Last month, we brought you the first part of our interview with Block Beattaz co-founder CP [read]. Today we bring you the second (and final) part of our conversation with Block Beattaz general. Things get a bit heavier this time around as we discuss the controversy behind the beat used on Stalley’s “Swangin” single as well as the unfortunate demise of G-Side. CP also details the Slow Motion Soundz team’s work in pushing ST 2 Lettaz as a solo artist and his renewed focus on the Block Beattaz brand. And for all the new fans catching onto this talented production team, perhaps from their work on Honest Cowboy [download], CP breaks downs the essentials of the Block Beattaz catalog. Check out part two below! Justin: That’s great. You released a song with Stalley, featuring the legendary Scarface, called “Swangin” that caused a little bit of controversy since the beat was originally used on a G-Side record from a few years ago. CP: Right Justin: What went into your decision of using that beat again and putting it out with another artist like that? CP: It was a total business decision. There wasn’t any ill will or nothing like that. This wasn’t the first time we’ve done this and it was an opportunity for not only G-Side to make a little money, but for us to have a great song on the major stage. That’s how I looked at it. And from a team perspective, there’s so many people involved in this song, from the intro to me and Mali to our ... Read More »

CP of the Block Beattaz Details Evolution of Group’s Sound and Branching Outside of Alabama [Part 1]

“Bl-Bl-Bl-Block Beattaz!” When you hear that tag, you know you’re in for sonic bliss. The production team known as the Block Beattaz went from simply the go-to producers in their hometown to truly taking Huntsville international. The Block Beattaz and Slow Motions Soundz have been a driving force in Alabama’s Hip Hop scene for over a decade, but the team’s profile has risen dramatically in the wake of G-Side’s breakthrough just a few years ago. CP and Mali Boi developed a signature sound that is now coveted by artists and fans alike from around the world. I had the chance to speak with co-founder CP about everything you could possibly want to know about the Block Beattaz. In part one of our conversation, CP explains the origins of the group and the Slow Motion Soundz label as well as their work with Stalley, T.I. & Freddie Gibbs. The Huntsville producer also discusses how their sound developed, adding new members to their production team, why G-Side helped them gained recognition beyond Alabama and much more. Check out part one of our interview with CP below. Justin: Let’s talk about the origin of the Block Beattaz. How did you end up together and become a production team? CP: It started back in 1999. Originally it was just me, one of my partners named Roger… [Slow Motions Soundz owner/manager] Codie G was even helping me do production — and we were just making beats cause didn’t know where else to get beats. Structurally, when we really got it together was 2000 when Mali Boi came aboard. I saw the talent that he had and what he could bring to the team. We took ... Read More »

ST 2 Lettaz: Time Wasted

As you know by now, G-Side split up last year. But from everything we heard, it appeared to be an amicable split between the duo. Recently the tensions between the Slow Motion Soundz camp and Clova were seen in the public via Twitter with the release of Stalley’s song “Swangin” produced by the Block Beattaz. In light of this, ST 2 Lettaz has finally decided to break his silence and release the track “Time Wasted” to tell his side of the story. The folks at DirtyGloveBastard.net have a good recap of the events that led up to the release of this track, which was originally intended for 2 Lettaz’s debut. Check that out below and make sure you cop G: The Growth & The Development, which is available now. When G-Side broke up several months ago, everything seemed to be cool between ST 2 Lettaz & Clova. They both made public comments that there was no bad blood and they were still supporting each other projects via social media. However, all that seemed to come to an end after Stalley’s new single “Swangin” was released last week. The record, produced by Slow Motion Soundz’ production team, the Block Beattaz was a remake of a G-Side song of the same title that appeared on their 2008 album, Starshipz & Rockets. Clova immediately took to twitter and voiced his displeasure with the song & the idea of remaking one of the group’s tracks. A back and forth between him & CP (of ... Read More »
